Pulling the Pin at Easter: Rum, Rituals & Renewal

Easter is the ultimate time of year for new beginnings, good food, and the perfect excuse to bring out the best rum in the house and toast the season.

Whether you’re in it for the Easter food, the kids’ egg hunts, or just looking for an Easter drink that hits different, why not mix in a little spiced rum this year? Let’s raise a glass to the past, present, and future.

Where Easter Comes From

Before the bunnies and brunches, Easter was all about celebrating the return of spring. The goddess Ēostre (or Ostara) was linked to the dawn, fertility, and new life — which explains the eggs and rabbits, long-standing symbols of rebirth. According to the 8th-century monk Bede, the month of April was once called Eosturmonath, named in honour of this goddess, and celebrated with festivals of light and renewal. Around this same time of year, early Christians began commemorating the resurrection of Jesus, which they believed occurred during the Jewish festival of Passover. As Christianity spread across Europe, many pagan spring traditions were gradually merged with this religious observance, forming what we now know as Easter — a blend of ancient seasonal symbolism and spiritual rebirth.

Spiced Rum: A Modern Twist on Ancient Toasts

Now obviously they weren’t sipping rum cocktails back in Bede’s day — more like ale or mead — but we say there’s no reason not to up the ante. Spiced rum is bold, rich, and perfect for spring. It’s warming, just sweet enough, and full of flavour that pairs perfectly with those seasonal favourites. Our fruit rums, with their fresh, vibrant flavours are another perfect complement to spring and Easter

Best Rum Pairings with Easter Food

Hot Cross Buns + Spiced Rum Glaze: The cinnamon in the buns + pull the pin spiced rum? Match made in heaven. Warm one up and drizzle it with a quick rum icing.

Keeping Kids (and everyone!) Happy While You Sip

Here’s a few family-friendly activities while you sip a rum on the rocks or a cocktail:

Egg shell terrarium: Fill half an egg shell with some soil and plant a seed (chia seeds work well after soaking for an hour)

Egg decorating: Blow the eggs, Paints, stickers, glitter — let them go wild.

Easter memory game: Make a DIY card game with chicks, carrots, bunnies etc on the cards.

Rum, Rebirth & Renewal

So, is Easter a pagan holiday? Technically, a bit of both. And that’s the beauty of it. Whether you’re honouring ancient rituals, leaning into the modern family madness, or just looking for something new to toast this spring, you pull the pin rum can be the ultimate wingman.

This year, don’t just follow the script — pull the pin. Honour the past traditions and blend with your new Easter traditions. Say cheers to where we came from and where we’re going. It's a spiced on the rocks for me! Easter, reborn — rum-style.
